DJ · Producer · Label owner

Ceri

I have been making and releasing deep, emotive house and techno for almost fifteen years, using mostly Logic and Ableton Live, and I have experience of Pro Tools, and other programmes too.

I set up the Find Your Own Sound community to suit producers of any genre in electronic music, using any DAW. It is not about making music like me, it is about unlocking what makes you you, using whatever programme works best for your brain and your process.

Find Your Own Records

I launched my record label, Find Your Own Records, because most of the labels I wanted to be on were not replying, or were rejecting my music. I had finally reached a place where I was happy with my sound and knew the music was good and coming from my soul.

So I took a chance and put it out myself. That chance paid off, and I was honoured that two of my favourite producers of all time remixed the first two releases: Mr G and Fred P. The records did well, and then the labels who rejected me before came knocking!

So if you are sending demos into silence, or even finding it hard to finish music you are happy with, I created Find Your Own Sound for you...

Find Your Own Sound

My philosophy for helping other people with their music has always been the old one: give a man a fish, feed him for a day, teach a man to fish, feed him for life. I helped a lot of producers one to one in my studio, and noticed they all needed help with the same things.

Then, when the pandemic happened, I turned that knowledge into an online Masterclass to help people finish music they are happy with that sounds good...

People found it very useful, and many of the producers who took part went from being unable to finish a track, to getting signed and released. Others needed more support after the Masterclass was finished, to help them with their next steps, so the Find Your Own Sound community was born.

I am also still learning. I take courses. I get things wrong. Anyone who tells you they have it all figured out is selling you something.

Music first, everything else second

The industry has drifted towards follower counts and viral moments as a measure of success for artists. I disagree. The music always comes first, and it has to be the main focus to start with, in my opinion.

I have however also brought some marketing and social media support into the community, but that is only useful once you are already making music you believe in, music that showcases your uniqueness.

Many Find Your Own Sound producers have had tracks signed, Beatport top ten releases, support from major artists they love, BBC Radio 1 plays and more, even with small followings. If the music is good, follower count does not matter. So I am here to help you get noticed for your music, not for vanity metrics.
